why buy when you can barter? use this space to post goods or services you have, and what you'd like in exchange for them. also post requests if you just need to borrow an item (tools for a weekend project). BARTER, BORROW, OR GIVE!

Hi, I just joined this group. I also just commented on this thread here: http://www.beaconcitizen.com/forum/topics/biking-in-beacon-lessons-from About biking alternatives for Beacon. Thought folks here would be interested in that thread as well....

Free Dahlias--I am digging them up and they just keep multiplying over the summer. It's science fiction! They need to be stored over the winter in a basement (not a garage)--plant them next May or so. Gorgeous, deep reddish-maroon. Blooms last unt...

How long have you lived in Beacon?
since September '06
More about me:
I think Beacon has so much potential, and I'm glad someone finally put together this social network so we can connect easier and build a stronger community. I love living here, hiking up the mountain, cross-country skiing around Dennings Point, and boating up and down the Hudson. I'm working on a Master's in Media Studies down at the New School in Greenwich Village, but can also sometimes be found working at Manor House Realty on Main down by the dummy light, or studying and drinking coffee at Zuzu's. I'm a yoga junkie (thanks to Shannon & Carla over at Shambhala Yoga Center!), and am determined to accomplish scorpion pose by the end of the year. I love gardening...I just started growing my own mushrooms too (non-psychedelic), and maybe will try chickens if my husband will go for it. I envision a world where we can live off completely the grid, so for now it's a start. I'm a futurist, intrigued by accelerating change and the singularity, and obsessed with technology. Hmm, what else.. always looking to meet new people and make the world a happier place, so feel free to say hello!

Grants for Teens Interested in Social Change Projects

I came across this non-profit organization the other day - Do Something - that may be a good resource for any of you with children (under 25 y/o) wanting to do some social action project.

They're an organization committed to empowering teens by providing tools and resources so they can take their ideas and turn them into action. They have lists of different causes that students may be interested in (education, environment, violence & bullying, anima… Continue

Arts for Transit Program at the Train Station - No Time Soon....

Several weeks ago, I tossed an idea out there for a mural/mosaic of some sort to be created inside the tunnel at the train station. Cabot let me know that any public art at the station has to go through the MTA's Arts for Transit Program. They commission the art, and have a Call for Artists to submit their potential project. So, I contacted them to find out where Beacon stands on their list, and when we'd have a Call for Artists.

So, I had to email 4 times before I got a response saying they we… Continue

Venessa, I like a lot of the stuff you have to say. I don't have much time between work and an almost-three-year-old, but I do want to do something for the town. We live pretty close to each other, maybe we could meet some time?

It's cool. I'm still not a big fan of the black, but it's a great idea as a whole. Don't mind my quirky opinions. You do very nice work. Be well, neighbor.

Hi Venessa--looks like we're going to have rival clean-up gangs! Watch out. Seriously though, one of my intentions was to keep the clean-ups somewhat casual, and brief (1 1/2- 2 hours or so max) so people will have the rest of their day open, and to encourage people to participate on a regular basis. In other words, keep it fun . In theory, we all should do a little on our own on a daily basis (which I try to do.) That being said, I'm open to your suggestions, but would be unable to participate on a week-day. Regards, Rich O'Neill
